Agenda
Have you ever heard of a Jeffersonian Dinner? The increasingly popular concept of the Jeffersonian Dinner gets its name from the third U.S. President and Founding Father, who among his many accolades, is known to have been quite the host. Starting in the late 18th century, Thomas Jefferson invited colleagues and thought leaders from across the region to gather in his home for dinner and discussion of important topics of the day.
Imagine a large wooden table set for a lavish meal, likely prepared fresh from the gardens at Monticello. Guests were seated and a lively conversation would ensue. Uniquely, dinner guests would partake in the conversation as a single group, rather than conversing only with the those who were seated nearest. This created a setting which highlighted the knowledge and perspectives of every individual at the table over a single expert or speaker. Thoughts were shared and stories were told. These evenings of conversation became known as a valuable source of knowledge for attendees as well as the President himself.
Following dinner, guests returned to their homes, energized to share what they had learned with their own communities. We are bringing this same concept to discuss capitalism over a beautifully prepared meal among Conscious Capitalist members.
We will assign in advance reading a book such as Reimagining Capitalism or an article and video of a similar theme.
We will gather for a sumptuous dinner prepared by our hosts and then the evening will be facilitated by Paul Sippl who has been facilitating these dinners for other Conscious Capitalism chapters across the nation.
We will begin promptly at 6:30 pm so be sure to arrive by this time.
About our hosts:
Uma Kymal is wrapping up a long (30 years!) and interesting career in financial services where her clients covered the full gamut from central banks and multi-lateral agencies to corporate and investment banks and private clients. Uma’s focus for the last 4 years has been on supporting family business owners transition their business and create a legacy. Uma has lived and worked in the UK, Middle East, Africa, Europe, the USA, and India giving her the benefit of appreciating a wide cultural canvas.
Dr. Andrew Nevin has been immensely privileged in his 36+ years working life, living an equal amount of time in Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe and playing a wide variety of roles - line manager, strategy consultant, investor, economist, entrepreneur, author, and public intellectual.
He moved to Dallas in the fall of 2023 to become Research Professor and Inaugural Director of the Brainomics Venture, positioning Center for BrainHealth (University of Texas at Dallas) as the global authority in the economics of brain health. He is also a leader in the emerging concept of Flourishing, which focuses on shifting public policy from a GDP lens to a broader Flourishing lens. He is the co-author (with Dr. Elizabeth Neill) of Flourishing in Canada: How to get the Good Life.
